    Gas cookware ignites fire, Quavara building

    An unattended gas cooker fired on Wednesday in the Oke-Apomu area of ​​Ilorin, Kwara state, destroying seven rooms in the 20-room building.

    The incident took place around 2 p.m., engulfing a floor building in the Alfa Koro compound in Oke-Apomu and leveled it before firefighters arrived.

    A spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Department of Hassan Adekunle who confirmed the incident said hell was caused by unattended gas cookers.

    Adekunle said: “On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 13:53 hours, the Kwara State Fire Department received a distress call about the outbreak of the fire at the Oke-Apomu 90 Koro compound in Ilorin, Kwara State.

    “Firefighters responded quickly and arrived at several rooms that found engulfed the flames. Firefighters worked tirelessly to curb the fire and successfully preserved 13 of the 20 rooms in the floor building, while seven were affected by hell.

    “Preliminary investigations show that the fire was caused by unattended gas cookware.”

    He cites the National Fire Service Director, Prince Fask Fillard John, who urged the public to always prioritize fire safety to prevent such incidents.
