FIFA President Gianni Infantino is open to Canadian rapper Drake’s idea of performing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In the interview, host Rosanna Scott raised the idea of Drake’s title in the World Cup halftime performance, referring to the ongoing tensions between the rapper and Kendrick Lamar, who performed at Super Bowl Lix.
“I have a good idea for your halftime break,” Scotto told Infantino.
“Drake. Because you’re in the Super Bowl, Kendrick Lamar fired him in the Super Bowl.”
Infantino was interested and replied, “So we can create some competition?”
“Yes,” Scotto replied enthusiastically.
“It’s a good idea,” Infantino said. “In fact, Drake was with us when we announced the host city. I should have saved his phone number somewhere.”
Fans can still look forward to the World Cup’s first half-time performance this year.
On July 19, 2026, the World Cup will be held at the Metropolitan Stadium in New Jersey with the help of Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Phil Harvey.
“I can confirm my first half-time show ever in the FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey,” Infantino said at a press conference in Dallas Wednesday (March 5). “It will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a performance suitable for the world’s largest sporting event.”
