The federal government has hinted that the Second Operation Security Corridor Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) camps will soon operate in the Northwest to encourage willing low-risk terrorists and bandits to lie down their weapons.
The first center was established in Mallam Sidi, Gombe State.
Major General Adamu Garba Laka, the national coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC), the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), revealed this when he received his delegation from the delegation of the Alliance of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.
Rakha recalls that the domination of former combatants began with Nigeria’s correctional services in 2015 and was replicated in other custody centres in the country due to its success.
The coordinator said: “The purpose of the program is to reduce, recover and reintegrate low-risk members of terrorist organizations with the goal of relocating them to better national citizens of the country.
“The camp has graduated nearly 3,000 clients since its inception. It is delighted to inform you that the Second Operation Safety Corridor DDR Camp will soon be operated in the Northwest Nigeria region.”
He stressed that cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts is crucial because it allows countries to share information, resources and expertise.
Raka said that Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon and the Republic of Benin demonstrated such cooperation in dynamics and non-movement by agreeing to coordinate their military efforts under the framework of the Chad Basin Commission and establishing a joint transnational task force.
Meanwhile, Katsina Governor Dikko Radda vowed that his government would not negotiate with terrorists.
However, he said his government will welcome and integrate into society, any terrorist who abandons violence and choose to become law-abiding citizens.
“We won’t look for terrorists in the forest to negotiate. But if they voluntarily surrender, abandon violence and choose to become law-abiding citizens, we will be willing to reintegrate them into society,” Radda clarified.
