A 69-year-old woman was linked to a fatal stabbing injury to four-year-old Karen Carter, 65, in southwestern France.
Karen (pictured above) was found on Tuesday night, April 29 outside the house she owned and rented in the quiet village of Trémolat east of Bordeaux. She suffered five stabs to her breasts, groin, arms and legs – the injuries the prosecutor described were “violent violence and clear intentions to kill”.
Bergerac’s prosecutor Sylvie Martins-Guedes confirmed that the suspect was a local woman known to the victim. “She is part of the couple’s circle,” the prosecutor said.
Karen’s body was found near her car by a friend who was with her. The couple owned the property for about 15 years. Alan, who was not in France at the time, learned about his wife’s death through a call with his cousin who was in England.
The victim is well known in the area. The residents of Trémolat are the picturesque commune of Dordogne, welcomed by British immigrants and were stunned.
“Everyone was shocked,” said one local resident. “Karen is a pleasant, dynamic person who gets along with everyone.
Karen is described in local media as an active and good member of the community. The property she was found, Les Chouettes, is often rented to tourists.
French authorities continue to investigate the motives behind the brutal attack.
