Nigerian comedian and sketch producer Zics Aloma has strong views on marriage, stressing that men must be financially stable before deciding to get married.
He stressed on Instagram that despite social pressure, finances must be the priority. Although his financial situation has stabilized, he shared his personal perspective:
“I remember my mom called me on my 34th birthday and asked me when I was going to get married. Even though I was financially stable, I still felt like I wasn’t ready because I wanted to give myself, my kids, and my wife a life.”
Zics Aloma tells a cautionary tale: A friend rushed into marriage, believing it would bring blessings, but then fell into financial trouble and repeatedly asked for help:
“He sent me a wedding invitation and said that marriage would bring blessings. Soon after, he told me that his wife was pregnant. I took responsibility, but at some point, I had to stop him because he was not ready to take on the responsibilities of a family man.”
The comedian strongly recommends that young people, especially Gen Z, develop a skill early in life to prepare for the financial responsibilities of marriage.
