A 25-year-old man from the Free State of South Africa was identified as Bonginkosi Mokoena and was sentenced to 20 years in prison after killing his girlfriend’s two-year-old son.
Police spokesman W/O Mmako Mophiring said on June 5 last year, Mokoena brutally attacked the child Bophelo Moballane and the child’s mother was not at home.
“The child was whipped with a stick, kicked with a guided foot, and placed it in a basin filled with cold water. Mokona and his girlfriend fell asleep without checking the child’s condition.”
“The next day, after noticing that the child was not breathing, they took him to a local clinic. Upon arrival, police and emergency services were called and pronounced dead. Mokoena was arrested the same day.”
Mokoena was sentenced on Wednesday, March 19 and was also declared unsuitable for possessing a gun and working with children.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the Northern Cape High Court ruled Henry Manolo for a crime in the death of his three-month-old baby Henzo. He was also convicted of assaulting the child’s mother.
Manolo and his girlfriend were affected by alcohol and argued as he pushed her away, causing her to fall backwards, and Henzo was still tied to her back. He then forced Henzo to take off, causing the baby to fall onto the muddy road and then escape from the scene in the baby’s arms.
The next day, Manolo returned to their house as her mother left and placed Henzo’s body on the sofa before leaving.
