Cross herders attacked a farmer, John Akin, and cut off two of his fingers on Ilowa Gbade Village in the Atiba local government area of Oyo.
According to a gathering, the victim was working on his cassava farm when herders invade the farm with cattle and start destroying crops.
Akin begs the herders to quickly move the cattle out of the farm, but his objections infuriates the herders who pounced on him and cut off his two fingers.
Witnesses said the incident had concerns about the village as residents concerned continued to worry about violent invasions on farms and communities.
According to the leaders, one of the herders was arrested and then handed over to the Atiba branch of the Oyo State Police Department, where he was detained for interrogation.
Residents of the Atiba local government are concerned about alleged invasion of the old Oyo National Park and nearby forests by terrorists in the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP).
On Thursday, Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde swore that the state would not welcome the wrong herders, bandits and other criminals who moved from the north to the southwest.
Makinde revealed this in his monthly newsletter, noting in the results of a meeting with security chief that it was a measure that the state cuts the threat measures posed by the state.
“It is certain that Oyo State will not welcome criminals like this. We will step back to make sure they are washed out of our state. So our deliberation today (Thursday) is about the strategies we will deploy and the role we all should play to make sure we continue to keep our dear state safe and secure,” the governor said.
“We must do everything we can to protect the relative peace that has helped us grow the state’s GDP by more than 50% since 2019.”
