Eric Dane has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
“I was diagnosed with ALS,” he told people. “I’m happy to browse my lover’s family in the next chapter.”
The 52-year-old actor married Rebecca Gayheart, and the couple shared two children, Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13.
“I’m lucky to be able to continue working and look forward to returning to euphoria next week,” he added. “I kindly ask you to give my family and my privacy during this time.”
Dane is delighted with the Jacobs Family Ertiarch, and he will start production of the HBO season 3 on April 14.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rare degenerative disease that causes progressive paralysis of the muscles. Patients first experience convulsions or weakness in their limbs, and then often speak vaguely. According to the Mayo Clinic, because the disease affects nerve cells in the brain and spine that control muscle movement, patients gradually lose the ability to speak, eat, walk and breathe independently.
According to the Muscle Dystrophy Association, ALS cannot cure ALS, and people usually live three to five years after diagnosis. However, some patients can live for decades.
