Veteran Nollywood actress Dupe Jayesim is open to her childless struggle and how it affects her life.
The 61-year-old revealed this in a recent interview on the Talk2B podcast.
Jayesimi, who got married on October 22, 1988, revealed that she was pregnant at the wedding but lost her baby a few weeks later. She mentioned that several attempts to have children failed, which led to serious trouble in her marriage.
The movie star revealed that at a critical moment, her ex-husband’s absence further complicated their conception efforts, ultimately leading to a marriage collapse. Jayesimi said her ex-husband’s girlfriend was pregnant and moved into his apartment just two weeks after separation, frustrating her and turning to alcohol pleas.
“I got married on October 22, 1988. I had been practicing theaters and the people I got married knew this, but weren’t frustrated. However, his job required him to have two weeks and then not available for the next two weeks.
In our marriage, even though I was pregnant, we had no children. I lost my wedding weeks to get pregnant. Since then, we have done a lot of testing. Once, I was told they would do a program that let me open my, and if my husband was dating me, I would get pregnant. We continued the procedure, but my husband didn’t show up until three months later.
When he came back, I got angry. He asked me why I was angry and said that if I was tired of marriage, I should move out. By then, we had been married for five years. There are rumors that my life is in danger, so I have to leave.
Two weeks after I left my marriage, he brought another pregnant woman. The situation frustrated me so much that I started drinking. ” He said
The veteran actress mentioned that she later met an older man and had an affair with him. She said they tried IVF twice, but neither program passed. She mentioned that she had considered adoption, but her mother strongly opposed it.
“Initially, I decided that I wouldn’t get married again until I met an Alhaji who was like a father. I wish I had met him before the marriage failed. We tried IVF twice, but it didn’t work.
When I was about 40, I got pregnant, but I didn’t know it at the time. I used to have pain in my abdomen and then went to the hospital for a test and a scan. I was told I was pregnant, but it was an ectopic pregnancy. After the surgery, I have never been able to get pregnant again since then.
I left Alhaji’s marriage when his first wife started having problems with him. I considered adoption, but my mother said she would kill any children I adopted. I left Alhaji about 15 years ago.
Since then, I have no children. I’m not a person who has a problem and I’ll never consider suicide. I know God’s time will bring me.
Jayesimi also talked about how she cared for the children of those around her, but later they abandoned her.
She said her sister’s daughter was taken care of by her, but when her niece got married, the mother (her sister) asked her not to sit in a specific place. She said her sister said she didn’t care what Jayesimi did for her daughter because the actress was just her aunt, not her mother.
Jayesimi said she remains hopeful and resilient and expresses her gratitude to her career and the children she raised.
“When I think about what I do—the children I raise, and hope they will take care of me, but they don’t—I’m glad God bless me for this job.
