Achimugu was arrested at around 5 a.m. Tuesday shortly after arriving in Nigeria from London.

“She arrived voluntarily and was arrested by the EFCC. She went on a hunger strike immediately,” Ojukwu said. “Like Nelson Mandela of South Africa and Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar, she is a prisoner of conscience. This stage will certainly pass. The rule of law in Nigeria is on the cliff.”
The arrests are related to ongoing EFCC investigation into criminal conspiracy and money laundering allegations.
Earlier, Ojukwu had notified the Federal High Court in Abuja that Achimugu plans to commemorate the invitation to the EFCC on Tuesday, as shown in the court documents.
This is after Justice Inyang Ekwo’s order, he ordered Achimugu to report to the EFCC on April 29, 2025. The court also directed her to return to the legal action in the case on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
