A Nigerian doctor known as Dr Babatunde on
He shared his experience on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, revealing that 10 years into his career, he has struggled to achieve meaningful financial growth.
He recalled a recent experience in Abeokuta when his aging Honda Accord suddenly broke down. When he was stranded on the side of the road in the heat wearing business attire, he said he was jeered by a group of young men driving by in a Lexus.
The doctor explained that his car, a seventh-generation Honda Accord produced between 2003 and 2007, broke down in the hot sun, turning an otherwise normal day into a moment of shame.
Reflecting on the situation, Dr. Babatunde noted that qualifying as a doctor requires years of intense study, training and financial investment. Despite these sacrifices, he expressed frustration that his income has remained essentially the same since he started his practice.
He added that his experience highlights the broader economic reality faced by many professionals in the country, who spend years dedicating themselves to education and career advancement only to see little improvement in their financial situation.
His words…
“I have been a doctor in Nigeria for 10 years.
This is what I can bear.
On this day, under the hot sun in Abeokuta, some young boys in a Lexus were laughing at me for wearing a tie.
There is no way my salary and side job could buy me another car.
We really need to solve Nigeria’s problems for Nigerians, not just the problems of a few. ” he said.
