This incident took place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, bringing family and the entire community into mourning.
The deceased’s father, Pa Robinson Aghalu, a 79-year-old retired soldier, said the tragedy began shortly after the children had eaten a meal prepared by their mother.
According to Aghalu, his children began to experience stomach pain, vomiting and other symptoms that worsened over time and were taken to hospital.
“In spite of their efforts to save them, five of the six children died in multiple hospitals in the area, including nearby maternity clinics, Iyienu Mission Hospital and Crown Hospital,” he said.
“The mother, who was also sick due to similar symptoms, is currently in hospital. A doctor who manages the mother’s case confirmed that the possible cause of the disease was food poisoning.”
The couple’s only surviving child left when the incident occurred and studied with relatives.
It is said that dead families are desperately in need of support to cover medical care and related costs.
Anambra State Police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident said food samples had been collected for forensic analysis.
“The order is aware of this development and took over the crime scene. Food samples have been used forensic assessments, and operators have also attracted the community to obtain the necessary information, which will help the investigation,” PPRO said.
