The Edo State Police Department has confirmed the arrest of four hunters from Kano State, who were intercepted by weapons and ammunition after arriving in Edo.
After clarifications were widely misleading on social media, it showed that the suspect was armed in a hotel and handed over to police.
According to a statement released by command spokesman CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the individual involved is not Herdsmen, but Hunter, but Hunter on the way to the UVBE community of Orhionmwon Local Government ISA. The arrested were identified as Yusuf Abdul Karim, Jihadist Galba, Stu Idris and Jamilu Khabib.
The items recovered from them include three guns, six empty cartridges, three half-filled cartridges, four blades and two daggers. The arrest was conducted by an operator of the Edo Security Network.
“The Edo State Police Department realized the misinformation circulating on social media was that four armed gun herders were arrested at the Americanus Hotel on Osemwink Street, in the Big Joe Motorcycle, Ramat Park, the Orogbeni area, and then handed over to the police, and handed over to the police,” the statement said. “Preliminary investigations show that they were hunters, not herders. They came from Doguwa, Kano, and headed to the UVBE community in the Olschinwan Local Government Area of Edo State. Meanwhile, an investigation is underway.”
Edo police commissioners urged the public on Monday to avoid spreading unfounded claims, which could incite tensions or fears within the state.
