British-Nigerian heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua has survived a fatal car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State.
The accident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, resulting in the tragic deaths of two other passengers in the vehicle.
The 36-year-old former world champion was traveling in a Lexus SUV as part of a two-car convoy when it collided with a stationary truck near the Macun axis near the Danko gas station.
According to the Ogun State Police Command and eyewitnesses, the Lexus was carrying four passengers at the time of impact
Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo confirmed that Joshua was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigations indicate mechanical failure may have been the catalyst.
“I can confirm that an accident occurred…a car struck a stationary vehicle. Sadly, two people died. Anthony Joshua was involved and has been taken to hospital.”
According to reports, a tire on the Lexus burst, causing the driver to lose control and crash into an idle truck parked on the highway.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn released a brief statement acknowledging the viral images while on vacation:
“We’re trying to contact Anthony and at the same time we don’t want to speculate on his condition, but luckily from what I’ve seen in the images, he looks fine. We’re waiting for more information.”
The incident occurred ten days after Joshua’s high-profile sixth-round knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami on December 19. Joshua traveled to Nigeria for a holiday and reconnect with his roots before beginning preparations for a possible fight with Tyson Fury in 2026.
