Argentina’s President Javier Milei announced that he had never seen a football player like Lionel Messi, calling Miami Star Star the “highest player” and the greatest ever.
His statement could spark debate among Argentina football fans, many of whom still believe the late Diego Maradona is America’s greatest football icon.
President Milli expressed deep admiration on the podcast Nuera, even when the media harshly criticized the former Barcelona captain, described himself as a long-time supporter.
“I’ve never seen anyone playing like him in my life,” Miley said. “He’s a top player. I’m a crazy fan of Messi. When all the local media are attacking him, there are some videos where I defend him as the best player ever.”
Messi has faced rigorous scrutiny for failing to replicate the club’s success with the Argentine National Team. He suffered heartbreaking losses, including the 2014 World Cup final against Germany and the 2015 and 2016 Chile’s back-to-back cup final.
In 2016, he briefly retired from international football, only reversed the decision and brought Argentina to Copa America glory in 2021 – he was the first major champion of the national team.
Messi continued to win the 2022 Finalissima and played a key role in Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar and secured the U.S. third world champion.
In 2024, he added another Copa America title to his outstanding career, further strengthening his legacy as one of the great players in football history.
