In a major move to stabilize the education sector, the federal government has begun rolling out key welfare provisions in the 2025 deal renegotiated with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
According to Education Minister Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the 40% increase in Comprehensive Academic Allowance (CAA) is now effective from January 1, 2026.
Payment details:
Some federal universities have started to reflect increases in salary payments.
The increase covers the Comprehensive Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), which is tax-free.
Vice-chancellors have been formally instructed to incorporate the increased salary into their payroll systems immediately.
