- The Federal Government has ordered the Vice-Chancellor to conduct attendance checks and withhold wages of staff participating in the ASUU strike that started on October 13, 2025.
- Academic activities nationwide are suspended, while CONUA members continue to lecture.
- The NLC criticized the government’s threats and supported ASUU’s demands for payment of arrears of wages, provision of funds and implementation of past agreements.

The Federal Government has directed the Vice-Chancellors of all Federal Universities to conduct physical attendance checks and submit staff reports following the nationwide strike by ASUU that began on Monday, October 13, 2025.
In a notification signed by Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa, the government warned that the wages of striking employees will be withheld, while members of CONUA and NAMDA will continue to receive their salaries.
Academic activities at many universities across the country have been suspended, but some CONUA members are continuing to teach.
The NLC condemned the government’s “no work, no pay” stance and defended ASUU’s action as a reaction to years of non-fulfillment of the agreement.
The two-week warning strike by ASUU demands full implementation of the 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement, payment of arrears and revitalization of public universities.
