Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar condemned the fatal attack in the plateau state on Sunday, killing dozens of innocent lives.

Naija News Atiku reportedly described a recent surge in violence, with 47 people killed in the prince’s community, indicating greater failures in President Bola Tinubu’s security policies and infrastructure.

The deadly attack occurred in the Kimakpa area of Kwali district of Bassa local government area, only one week after a similar attack occurred in the Bokkos local government area.

Many lives were killed and property was destroyed in both incidents, further highlighting the growing sense of insecurity in the region.

Atiku criticized the Tinubu-led government in a statement released by his media aide, Paul Ibe, and asserted that its security policies failed to protect Nigerians’ lives.

He said “Every sincere Nigerian should be concerned about the frequency and impunity of terrorists and bandits attacking innocent people in the country, especially in northern Nigeria, which has become the center of terrorist violence in the country.”

Atiku specifically pointed out ongoing attacks in the plateau and Borno states, calling on the federal government to take urgent action to resolve the growing security crisis.

He also called for more aggressive measures to prevent such incidents, describing the current security landscape as “shameful” and a direct challenge to national security.

One of the key points raised by Atiku is the delay in prosecution of captive terrorists and bandits in the country. He criticized the government for its lack of action to bring captured criminals to justice, which he said has given these criminal groups the courage to continue their violence.

“If the government has the same energy as the trial of political critics in prosecutions of terrorists and bandits, it would be a long way to go to convey a strong message to the offenders, namely, the consequences for mass murder, Atticu said.

He also called on the federal attorney general to conduct a quick trial of terrorists and bandits, and proposed the establishment of a special court to quickly carry out the belief.

“Since 2016, at least hundreds of terrorists and bandits have been detained without trial, and the delay in bringing them to justice has discouraged our security forces. If terrorists and bandits are captured and detained for too long, without trial, it will undermine the efforts and sacrifices of our security forces,” he said. He explained.

Atiku also expressed concern about the relaxed and consciousness of armed criminal groups to carry out terrorist activities across state borders. He called for stronger border security measures and stressed that it is not enough to condemn terrorist attacks.

“What is needed is rapid and aggressive measures to prevent further attacks and the loss of innocent lives.” He added.

He concluded that as long as terrorists and bandits continue to be impunity without facing the consequences of their actions, they will continue to attack innocent people without fear of retribution.
