Ayo Makun revealed that he was recently invited by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission to publicly spray local and foreign currencies.
The comedian shared videos of the events that led to his invitation.
He then urged Nigerians to respect Naira and foreign currencies by donating responsibly at the event.
He wrote: “I thank God for his mercy and guidance. On Monday, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) invited me to invite me to have an incident involving public spraying of local and foreign currencies, which was classified as a crime related to the abuse of Naira.
“I would like to sincerely thank the EFCC and all participating authorities for their understanding and based on the recognition that the funds sprayed are related to the proceeds of crime or any form of illegal funds.
“This experience has been a valuable lesson and I personally work to raise awareness of the proper respect and care of our country’s currency.
“For my friends, family and the public: We all know that squirting money at public events is a common practice in Nigerian celebrations, especially during weddings, funerals and parties. Usually, this is considered a cultural tradition, not a criminal act. But let me accompany some slides on the DOS, instead.
“It is important to understand that whether it is dismemberment or abuse of Naira by spraying, tearing, defilement or unfortunately – is not only a cultural practice, but also an act that violates Nigerian law. This act undermines the integrity of our national currency and can have serious legal consequences.
“Let us all work hard to uphold our monetary dignity, a symbol of our country’s sovereignty and economic stability. Respecting Naira is respecting the future of Nigeria.
“Together, we can promote responsible behavior and cultivate a culture of patriotism and integrity. Thank you.”
