Babajda explained in his new autobiography, Journey of Service, that Buhari’s policies are harmful to the progress of the country and that the armed forces are on the brink of factions.
“By the beginning of 1985, citizens were concerned about the future of our country. The atmosphere was unstable and filled with ominous signs of clarity and danger now,” Babangida wrote.

He added that the initial rescue mission in 1983 was largely miscarried and the armed forces were at risk of being divided.
The former military president also said Buhari and his deputy Tunde Idiagbon were able to separate themselves from the mainstream of the armed forces by personalizing their initial collective leadership.

“They both put forward an attitude that is more than you, making the people opposed to the military,” Babajda wrote.
Babangida explained that changes in leadership are necessary due to worsening national sentiment.
“On August 27, 1985, I served as the new leader of the country, fully aware of the many challenges facing the country. I have no illusions about the direction of moving the country.”
In this book, Babangida also revealed that he was under pressure from his rank and archives to seek ways to reconnect government with society.
“I revealed to some senior colleagues that I would rather resign than continue as Chief of Staff of the Army than invest in decisions involving the profession of personnel under my command.”
