The family of fashion designer Bamise Ayanwola, 22, was murdered by Andrew Aminikoron, a bus rapid transport driver, calling on the government to arrest all accomplices involved in the death of their daughter.
Naija News Recalling that Baums appeared on the Aja axis in Lagos for the last time after boarding the BRT bus driven by Aminikoron on February 26, 2022. At that time, her disappearance sparked public anger and extensive searches.
Nine days later, her lifeless body was found on the Carter Bridge on Lagos Island.
After three years of court lawsuits, Sherifat Sonaike, who sat in the Lagos State High Court on Friday, was convicted and sentenced Aminikoron to Ayanwola to death.
Sonaike believes that the prosecutor successfully proved its case, relying on the “last seen” doctrine and the dying declaration of the victim to establish an injustice.
She said “Nneka Udezulu, who was raped on the first charge, was sentenced to life imprisonment. For the third rape of Anyawola, you were sentenced to 14 years in prison. For the fifth, a sexual assault on Dr. Victoria Anosike, you were sentenced to three years in prison.
“For Volume 4, this is the crime of murder of Oluwamas Ayanwola. Convicted of murder, which is a crime under section 301 of the Criminal Justice Act, and the defendant was sentenced to death.
“You will be hanged in your neck until you die. May God have mercy on your soul.”
Onapemipo Damilola, the sister of the deceased, responding to the verdict, praising Judge Sonak for giving the verdict without prejudice, saying it was fair and commendable.
She also called for arrests of all those who had conspired with the BRT driver to murder his sister.
She said “Accomplice in this matter should be provided. The verdict is not biased. The verdict is accurate. We thank her very much. She deserves praise.”
When asked about possible compensation from the Lagos State Government, Damilola replied that no such offer was made.
She added:They never talked about any compensation. ”
