
Army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, reaffirmed the determination of the troops to ensure the Zamfara state and ensure that the infamous robber leader Bello Turji will be soon disuse. Oluyede issued the statement to journalists at the headquarters of the Zamfara State capital Gusau at the headquarters of Operation Fansan Yamma.
He stressed that Turi, who was wanted for criminal activities, has been running away, but the army will continue to pursue him. “Bello Turji is running while we are talking, and wherever he goes, we will follow him. It’s only a matter of time before he keeps running, he will be removed from the space.” Oluyed said.
The Army chief highlighted the recent success of Nigerian troops in the region, revealing the killing of several bandit leaders in the past few months. He noted that the military is committed to improving safety and protecting lives and property. “We are pursuing them, and we intend to continue to do that. The battle with the bandits is the same thing. Over the past few months, we have killed Samaila, Boga and Boderi ) and other famous robber leaders. All of them are dead. We are still pursuing them and knowing how to make the entire Northwest very safe,” he added.
Oluyede acknowledged the challenges faced by forces in the region but expressed confidence in their ability to overcome them. He also urged Nigerians to assist the Army and other security agencies by providing timely information.
During the visit, Oluyede inspected the quarter-finals guards under intense security and received a combat briefing from drama commander Major General Oluyinka Soyele. The visit marks his first since his appointment on October 30, 2024. This is when the troops are strengthening their efforts to combat bandits and other security issues in the Northwest. Operation Fasan Yamma plays a crucial role in the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian army to restore peace and stability to increase cases of gangsters, kidnappings and other security challenges.
