
According to reports, a 54-year-old farmer, Jeremiah Onuminya, from the Usha community in the Agato local government area of Benue State, was reportedly suffering from a downturn and D after the criminal attack was attacked by suspected herders!
Community sources told Punch that Onuminya will head to his farm on Monday, March 31, when some young people suddenly shouted, “Fulani!fulani!!” panic.
He tried to escape, ran away for life, but fell several meters from his house, d on the spot! ed.
The incident happened a few days after allegedly poisoned on a nearby farm, which exacerbated tensions in the community.
Agato Local Government Chairman Melvin James confirmed the incident in a statement Wednesday, April 2, expressing condolences to the families of the deceased.
He said preliminary investigations confirmed by security agencies and family showed that Onuminya was exhausted when she tried to escape and had no evidence of the attack.
“To determine the exact cause of the death, the Chairman recommended an autopsy; however, the family refused and accepted that Mr Onuminya’s death was caused by health complications,” James said in a statement released by his media aide Solomon Obochi.
James urged residents to avoid disseminating unverified information that could cause panic and undermine vulnerable peace in the region.
He warned that false alarms pose serious risks to public safety and community safety and solidarity efforts.
