Scholarship Scope
Birkbeck International Scholarships offer the following scholarship amounts to their recipients:
- £4000 (tuition fees only, first year only)
- £2000 (tuition fees only, first year only)
- £1500 (tuition fees only, first year only)
- £1000 (tuition fees only, first year only).
Note: General Terms and Conditions: The scholarship cannot be held concurrently with any other full scholarship (e.g. Chevening Scholarship). You must pay a non-refundable deposit of £2,000 within two weeks of being selected for the scholarship.
Eligibility Criteria for Birkbeck University London Scholarships
To be eligible for the Birkbeck International Scholarship, candidates must meet all of the following requirements:
- Required language: English
- Eligible countries: Africa (Sub-Saharan) Asia (Central, South, Southeast and East Asia), Caribbean, Latin America and MENA (Middle East and North Africa).
- You are an international fee-paying overseas student holding an unconditional offer on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate taught course at Birkbeck from autumn 2023. You must have been assessed as an international payer to be eligible.
- You are an ordinary resident of a country in the relevant region
- You pay for it at your own expense
- You are classified as an “international” tuition fee payer.
- Only one scholarship may be awarded per student, and this scholarship generally cannot be awarded concurrently with any other scholarship.

(2) Once you have received your unconditional offer from Birkbeck, you can apply using the online application form for your area of residence.
- Application form for residents in Asia/Central Asia
- You must be a national and reside in one of the following regions: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh.
- Application form for residents of East Asia/Southeast Asia
- You must be a national of and reside in one of the following territories: Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macau SAR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.
- Application form for persons resident in the Middle East/North Africa
- You must be a national and reside in one of the following regions: Turkey, UAE, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Bahrain, Kuwait, Tunisia.
- Application form for residents of North America
- You must be a national of Canada or the United States and reside in Canada or the United States.
- Application form for residents in Latin America/Caribbean
- You must be a national of and reside in any Latin American or Caribbean country except Brazil. If you are a Brazilian national, you may be eligible for the Birkbeck Global Futures Scholarship (see above).
- Application form for residents in sub-Saharan Africa
- You must be a national of and reside in one of the following territories: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo (Brazzaville), Congo (Democratic Republic of), Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Swaziland, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Gambia, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
(3) Successful scholars will be selected based on a statement of no more than 4,000 words supporting the application. The statement should detail why they are an ideal candidate for the scholarship.
(4) If you are successfully awarded this scholarship, you will be notified by email. You must pay a non-refundable deposit of £200 within the period stated on your award letter (usually five working days).
(5) You must successfully register for Fall 2023 admission by October 2023 to receive this award.
