A 36-year-old bishop at Zion Christian Church (ZCC) in Bitbridge, Zimbabwe, was convicted of whipping @th at a controversial “rehabilitation” meeting. The bishop was identified as the vulnerable Crispen Gomori, convicted of a woman after the church will die, and her husband was seriously injured.
The incident occurred on March 6, 2023, when a victim of a married couple visited the ZCC shrine in Beitbridge for spiritual recovery. When Gomori arrived, he accused them of suffering from mental illness and suffered an extreme form of “treatment”. He ordered other fellow citizens to link the couple to a tree in the church house.
The couple was tied up until Gomori started what was called a rehabilitation class with leather whips at 8 p.m., who repeatedly whipped them in a cruel training that lasted for several hours. The woman succumbed to her injuries at around 4 a.m.
After realizing the woman’s death, Gomorri fled the scene, putting her husband in a critical state. Authorities were alerted and police reports were submitted, resulting in Gomorri’s arrest. The male victim was taken to Betbridge Regional Hospital for treatment, while the woman’s body was taken to the same hospital for autopsy.
In court lawsuit, Betbridge resident samurai Takudzwa Gwazemba presided over the case, and prosecutor Tawanda Chigavazira presented evidence highlighting the seriousness of the attack . Gomori claims the couple agrees to whip themselves as part of their religious beliefs. However, the court ruled that the seriousness of the assault was far beyond acceptable limits.
Gomori admitted to having seven shots on male victims, believing it as a form of mental recovery. Despite his defense, the court found him guilty of causing the woman’s death and aggravated assault on her husband.
