Bode George, a member of the People’s Democratic Party’s board of directors (PDP), said the party would reach its end if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar secured the party’s 2027 presidential vote.
Bode George said on the channel TV show “Politics Show Today” Monday, April 14, “If he (atiku) chose it (the vote of the PDP), it would be the end of the party.
Atiku has been in the Nigerian presidential race for thirty years and has been a presidential candidate for different political parties six times.
Atiku recently advocated a party alliance that gave birth to a coalition on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
However, on Monday, April 14, 2025, the PDP governor rejected the Atiku-led coalition, excluding any plans from the party to merge or alliance.
Bord spoke on Monday’s TV show, and George applauded the PDP governor for rejecting the Atiku-led coalition.
George said Atiku has not proved himself to be the leader of the party because he has not yet gotten involved in recent intra-party quarrels within the party.
Bord George said: “No, if he was the leader of the party, he would be involved in the party (the crisis).
“The fact that he was the party’s presidential candidate in the last election does not mean that he is the party’s good-willed, fixed leader. If he runs for private interests, it’s different from the party’s interests.”
When asked if Attiku could become the PDP’s flag bearer in 2027, the PDP chief said: “He can’t.
“There are rules. Section 7, Section 3C of our Constitution. It states that once the presidential candidate has been in the South for eight years, it must go to the North. In another eight years, it will reach the South. Is it the South, Southwest, North or Southeast?” George asked.
The PDP chief said he also does not want Tinubu to be re-elected in 2027, adding that he hopes his party will win the next election with the Southern candidate.
