The suspected Boko Haram terrorist has kidnapped the dean of the BIU (NAUB) Engineering College of Nigeria Army University, along with other passengers near Kamuya village on Yobe State Damaturu-Biu Road.
Officials at the university confirmed the incident but declined to comment further. A source told the Daily Trust that the professor returned from Maiduguri and visited his family when he was taken away. The next morning, he held a meeting and his family knew about his travel plans. The incident puts the university community in trouble.
The report shows that the professor is one of 30 candidates, competing for the position of vice-chancellor Naub. An unspecified individual of the alleged ISWAP/BOKO Holy Land Element ambushing a traveler on March 2, 2025, kidnapped two golf cars and a Borno Express Bus, a security source revealed. Sources further pointed out that all female passengers were released, while male passengers, including Professor Abubaka Elyuma, were released.
Authorities and residents are urging prayers for the safe return of victims, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
Repeated kidnappings and killings on Damaturu-biu Road have caused fear among travelers. Five months ago, an academic in the Ministry of Construction was killed on the same route when he returned from Maiduguri.
