A newly-married groom was tragically murdered a few hours after knotting it, a joyful celebration of love.
Tyrek Burton, 37, was shot dead outside his wedding venue in Greensboro, North Carolina, in October last year and was shot dead only when he married his long-time partner Kiara, at the age of 33.
Kiara’s first public speech reveals a series of heartbreaking events that led to the death of her husband. After mistakenly believing that his wife had left the venue, Tyrek got into his car and started driving home. But when he realized she was still inside, he turned around to pick her up.

This gesture of love will lose his life.
“It was a road rage,” Kiara explained in an emotional interview with Fox 8. “It was almost a stranger, or someone we didn’t know, who cut him off and faced him.”
Tyrek is a father of four who has been in Kiara for more than a decade. The couple originally planned to elope, but eventually decided to hold a traditional ceremony for the children attending the wedding.
“Our happiest moment was seeing our children smiling,” Kiara recalls. “The wedding is for them.”
Photos of that day showed the couple’s happiness, posing on the altar and sharing their first dance as a couple.
But when Tyrek is ambushed in the parking lot and shoots multiple times in front of his wife and one of their daughters, Joey turns into horror. According to police, he suffered at least 15 attacks. Despite emergency life-saving work, he was pronounced dead that night.
Tyrek’s sister Brittany Burton later explained that the tragedy was the result of a misunderstanding.
She told ABC 7: “He turned around and I don’t think he saw anyone. Cut them off and the guy followed him back to the park.”
Not arrested yet, the killer is still unidentified. Kiara is now speaking out, hoping someone can provide information.
“He is so dedicated. He is a provider, a protector. A great husband, a good friend.” “This man can’t do something like this, just sleep on it. If you know anything, say something.”
Kiara’s sister Shaye Holloway shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook:
“Life is so unfair. We all wait for the day that gets so bad? A good day gets so ugly. The worst thing I’ve ever had.”
“I was so hurt – for my sister, for their daughter, for our family and friends. I wanted to be strong, but I was lost and confused.”
Photos of Wedding Night – The final hug shows the couple, who have been smiling since bringing a miserable, troubled tone.
Another family member posted a video montage during the celebration, writing:
“My heart is broken. Please pray for Kiara, the child, his mother, sister and all of us. There is nothing I can do except provide God and shoulders.”
“Kiara asked me, ‘How do I marry my life’s love and lose him on the same day?” I had nothing to say.
