His church organization said an 83-year-old British missionary and his aides kidnapped a group of armed men in Cameroon.
Huub Welters and assistant Henry Kang were arrested Tuesday, April 1 in a small town in separatist conflict people in the northwest of the country.
According to a missionary from Catholic Mill Hill, the couple is heading to a project to build classrooms for nearby Ilung.
In the latest news on Wednesday, London-based Catholic missionaries said Mr. Waits had spent his first night in prison but they “didn’t know” where he was.

They raised concerns about his “frail health” and said he had recently experienced a series of joint replacements and back operations.
The missionary added that Mr. Jiang had a wife and children who were “waiting in pain” and praying for his safety.
AFP’s African conscience, which is linked to NGOs, said it believes the couple has been kidnapped by separatist fighters.

“Today, however, he finds himself tormented by those whom he has taken care of throughout his life.”
They continued: “At his age, he should rest at home, surrounded by the warmth of precious memories of decades of selfless service.
“Instead, he chose to stay; for his heart simply did not allow him to get rid of the need. Now, his kindness, his sacrifice, his love has suffered violence and pain.”
