British Prime Minister Keir Starmer slammed Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, while accusing her of desperately seeking relevance.
Starmer describes Badenoch as “a self-appointed savior of Western civilization, and urgently needs relevance.”
He spoke at the plenary meeting on Wednesday, February 26, in response to Badenoch’s claim on aid to cut the defense budget.
The Conservative Party leader claimed during the plenary that Starmer listened to suggestions on cutting aid while raising questions about the defense budget.
She said: “On the weekend, I advised the Prime Minister that he cut his aid budget and I’m glad he accepted my advice. This is the fastest response I’ve ever received from the Prime Minister.
“But, he announced an additional £13.4 billion in defence expenditure yesterday. This morning, his defence minister said the promotion was only £6 billion. Is this the right number?”
Starmer replied that he had never seen her proposal before bringing up the number.
Starmer said: “I will have to let the opposition leader down gently. She didn’t play my mind at all. I was busy on weekends and didn’t even see her advice.
“I think she was appointed as the savior of Western civilization. It’s a desperate search for relevance. If you accept the figures for this fiscal year, then the figures for the 27/28 fiscal year, that’s a £13.4 billion increase, which is a continued increase in defence spending since the Cold War.”
