Bruno Fernandes revealed why he refused to move to Al-Hilal and confirmed that talks with his wife and Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim were key to his decision.
The Portuguese international is associated with the migration to Saudi Arabian club team Al-Hilal before the 2025/26 season, as the Red Devils have fought one of the worst battles in 50 years. Al Hilal is willing to pay almost three times the salary of Fernandes for £750,000 a week, and they are ready to pay Manchester United £100 million to sign the club’s captain.
Bruno Fernandes confirmed his contact with Al Hilal during his duty with the Portuguese national team, but chose to object to the move as he wanted to play at the highest level in Europe.
He said
“Al Hilal’s president called me a month ago to ask about the possibility of moving there. I had to wait a little while before thinking about the future. As I kept saying, if United thinks it’s better to keep going. I talked to Ruben Amorim. I’m really trying to talk to the club.
He continues
From my side, it was a very ambitious proposal and the president was a great person. I never talked about the money and ended up showing up with my agent. I have to make decisions as a family and understand my decisions about the future. This is my wife’s problem, this is my wife’s problem, what is my career goal. Joao Cancelo is used to their games, but I still play in big games because I still have the ability to continue to do that.
When will Bruno Fernandes sign at Manchester United?
Fernandes signed a contract with Manchester United, which will expire in 2027 and has the option to extend it for one year.
Since moving to Manchester United from Lisbon from Sporting in January 2020, Portugal International has contributed 98 goals and 87 assists in 290 games in 290 games.
