Chelsea beat recently crowned Premier League champion Liverpool 3-1 to boost their Champions League hopes by winning 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea started after installing honorary defenders for tourists. Enzo Fernandez opened the score in the third minute. Early goals set the tone for the Blues’ attacking thinking, even if they don’t enjoy the best possession.
Chelsea’s pressure paid off again in the 56th minute, when Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah accidentally turned the ball into his own net, doubled the home team’s lead.
Liverpool tried to end their late comeback, with Virgil van Dijk backing one in the 85th minute. However, when Cole Palmer switched a penalty in the 96th minute, sealing the London side’s victory, hopes of any dramatic shift went deep into downtime.
As a result, Chelsea scored a crucial three-pointer in the pursuit of the top four and weakened the championship momentum while winning the championship campaign.
Thanks to the victory, Chelsea ranked fifth at the Premier League table, scoring 63 points in 35 matches, the same as No. 4 Newcastle United and below Manchester City.
