Chess champion Tunde Onakoya reveals that he is in Mother D! Progress made by the two brothers adopted after Ed.
He said he met the boys in 2018 and introduced them to chess and now, they are doing well. He said that when he met the boy, his mother was very ill. He said, just put it on her! He mentioned that on Sunday, April 6, one of the boys Jamiu recently won the ICN Chess Championship in New York, with more than 200 USCF rating players ahead of schedule and a $500 scholarship.
“Today, my heart is overwhelmed by the words of joy. I think it’s time to finally share this story…
In 2018, I met Jamiu. He is a curious child, smart and full of light. At that time, he worked as a roadside mechanic in the slums of Majidun, Ikorodu. I invited him and his brother Ayomide to our weekend chess academy. I immediately became very fond of them because they were talented and had a great personality.
When I asked to meet their parents, he led me to a small shed and hugged a woman with the kindest woman. He said, “That’s my mom.”
I noticed that her legs were amputated. She lost her right leg in a tragic accident: an excavator ran off her while sweeping plastic bottles in the garbage dump to feed her children. She was never taken to the hospital because she didn’t have the money to classify medical expenses. After Jamiu was born, her husband abandoned her, so they never met her father.
That day, I swear to never leave them behind.
In 2019, their mother was seriously ill. As she cried, I held her hand and asked me to take care of her boy if something happened to her. I assure her that she will be alive and see her boy stand out. This is a promise I cannot keep…
Two weeks later, she passed.
That day, I became a father.
They moved in with me. We got them back to school. Jamiu became a chess champion and is currently completing his college education. I watched him grow into an amazing young man. His brother Ayomide was the track and field star of his last year in high school. I was filled with my heart and I was so happy to be part of their story.
Today 7 years later…We are together in the United States, Jamiu just won the ICN Chess Championship in New York, earning a $500 scholarship before over 200 USCF rating players.
I know your mother is smiling at you from the sky, and your dream is infinite Jamiu.
Continue to dare to show the world your true ingredients. I fought back today because I was so proud of you.
Jamiu Mom, your boy is doing well. I keep my promise. I always do. ”
