About the Commonwealth Students Association (CSA)
The Commonwealth Students’ Association (CSA) unifies and represents the needs and aspirations of students’ unions and other student organizations across the Commonwealth.
The program was launched in 2012 at the 18th Commonwealth Conference of Education Ministers (18CCEM) in Mauritius, where student leaders came together to advise on current education issues and enhance their role in the Commonwealth education sector.
The main purposes of the Commonwealth Students Association are “to promote unity among student organizations in Commonwealth countries; to protect the rights of Commonwealth students and actively promote the development of student movements; and to create an environment for student unions and student movements to develop individual and collective capabilities, free expression and advocacy.”
CSA is supported by the Youth Department of the Commonwealth Secretariat and is led by a Steering Committee, chaired by Dr Maisha Reza from Singapore.
It played an important role in the planning of the Commonwealth Student Congress, the largest gathering of students in the Commonwealth. The first Commonwealth Student Congress was held in the Bahamas in June 2015.
