The Vatican announced that the Cardinal has chosen May 7 as the date of the creation of the meeting and elected a new leader of 1.4 billion Catholics around the world.
The date of the Pope’s election was decided on Monday after the first daily congregation since the Cardinal’s funeral.
Only cardinals under the age of 80 can vote in the pope election. Currently, 135 cardinals are eligible for the upcoming elections. However, at least one cardinal revealed that he would not attend.
Cardinal Antonio Cañizares Llovera, who served as Archbishop of Valencia between 2014 and 2022, said he was unable to travel to the Vatican for health reasons.
On May 7, when the meeting began, it was unclear how many cardinals would be.
Bruni said the Cardinal discussed issues related to the future of the church and the challenges facing the world today.
He added that Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle and Cardinal Dominique Mamberti were elected to help Cardinal Kevin Farrell, a Dublin-born pastor who became a naturalized American citizen who owned the “camerlengo” (or Chamberlain). After the Pope’s death or resignation, Farrell’s task was to “supervise and manage the temporary objects and rights of the apostles’ meeting.”
The congregation will continue daily, starting at 9 a.m. ET, unless May 1 and May 4.
Cardinal voters will vote for Rome’s next bishop in a highly secretive vote held at the Sistine Church, which was closed in the public on Monday to prepare for the vote.
The last two conclusions were held in 2005, with the election of Benedict XVI and the election of Pope Francis in 2013 lasted for two days.
