Conor McGregor announced his intention to run for president in Ireland, a major hint,
The controversial MMA fighter has not fought in the UFC since the back-to-back loss at the Dustin Poirier in 2021.
McGregor will return to the octagon at UFC 303 in June last year to face longtime rival Michael Chandler, but the Irish was forced to quit due to injury.
The 36-year-old did not announce his campaign last week, but revealed that he would become president of Ireland after his trip to the White House.
Although McGregor has two battles left on his UFC contract, he claims his visit to U.S. President Donald Trump made him think twice before returning to MMA.
McGregor said at a post-war press conference at BKFC 70: “I had two battles on the contract and I was negotiating.
Last week, something happened to me, I’m going to the White House now and now bleeding for my country. There are a lot of things at home.
“I am satisfied with what I do. There is something else in my gut. That’s where we’re going.
‘we will see. Don’t worry, greatness, now Ireland is in my mind. That’s where I am.
McGregor was invited to meet with President Trump and several members of the administration to St. Patrick’s Day.
During the controversial visit, he used his platform to shoot at the Irish Prime Minister, saying rampant immigration was causing Ireland to “potentially lose Ireland” and declared that he had “full support for the entire Trump administration.”
Days after the visit, McGregor announced his plan to run for Ireland’s presidency in an Instagram post that left him standing in front of a private jet wearing a hat that “makes Ireland great again”.
McGregor wrote on Instagram: “Ireland must fully implement the EU immigration agreement by June 12, 2026. So from now until June 12, 2026, both houses of Oireachtas must pass several legislations and then sign them by the president.
The next presidential election must be held by November 11, 2025. Who else would support the government and oppose the bill?
No other presidential candidate they are trying to propose will resist them. I can! To make it clear that as president, I will propose the bill for referendum.
“Although I am very opposed to this agreement, it is neither my government nor the choice of the government. It is the people Ireland chooses! Always! That’s a real democracy!
