Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe will take a step forward on Thursday, April 10, regaining the unpaid wage and bonus 55 million euros owed to him by his former club Paris Saint-Germain.
According to a statement from his legal team, the Paris Judicial Court approved a protective freeze for freezing funds from a PSG account before the results of the legal process. The case has sparked growing tensions between players and clubs and is scheduled to be heard on May 26.
“This is only for employees of bad payers,” Delphine Verheyden, one of Mbappe’s lawyers, said in a press conference in Paris. “Kylian Mbappe is determined to enforce his rights not only for himself, but for all other players who think they are wronged by the club.”
In addition to the current legal action, Mbappe plans to upgrade the matter to a labor court. His complaint is part of a broader effort led by the French League of Players (FUNP), which previously filed a case that certain players were unfair to their clubs – Mbappe’s practice says he has also experienced it on PSG.
A PSG official spoke with AFP on condition of anonymity and expressed confidence in the club’s position, saying they raised “no problem” in court and predicted that “Mbappe won’t win.”
Mbappe joined Real Madrid in June 2024 after seven seasons at PSG, enjoying his return in Spain, scoring 22 goals in La Liga and winning seven Champions League goals so far this season.
