A federal high court in Abuja has approved the Nigerian government’s request to allow its witnesses to testify behind the screen against Biafra agitator Nnamdi Kanu in terrorism cases.
Justice James Omotosho made the ruling on Tuesday, April 29, while addressing the government’s chief lawyer, Adegboyega Solomon San. Solomon believed that covering up the identity of witnesses for security reasons was necessary, noting that the allegations against Kanu involved crimes related to terrorism.
He urged the court to avoid witness identity to the public to ensure their safety. The application did not object to Kanu’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi, prompted the judge to approve the request.
However, when Kanu finally heard about his bail application, Agabi called on the federal government to cooperate with each other.
By press time, the first witness of the federal government (determined by the code name PWAAA) had begun to testify because the prosecution began.
