On Tuesday, April 15, the Lagos High Court in Ikeja removed Faranas’s libel lawsuit against internet commentator Martins Otse, known as the Very Darkhus (VDM).
Femi Falana, a senior advocate in Nigeria; and his son Folarin, known as Falz; filed a libel lawsuit against VDM after comments and videos he posted on his social media handles and pages on September 24, 2024.
Falanas dragged the defendant to court in a separate lawsuit, each of whom compensated him for the video posted on his social media platform, saying they collected 10 million guilds from Idris Okuneye (aka Bobrisky) to explore the cause of justice.
When the case was summoned on Tuesday, April 15, there was no Farana, his son and VDM in the court.
However, Niyi Alagbe, the defendant’s attorney, briefed Marvin Omorogbe, informing the court that he had earlier filed a lawsuit before Justice Fimisola Azeez.
Falanas’s attorney Omotayo Olatunbosun told the court in his reply that he received the application at around 4:15 p.m.
Olatunbosun argued that the issue of the day was initial objection, saying it was listening to it was mature and the purpose of the new application was to extend the matter.
Olatunbosun urged the judge to continue his business today.
Judge Matthias Dawodu said the application was not in the file and wanted to know why he encountered a case when the entity lawsuit was heard in another court.
Dawodu ousted the lawsuit and insisted on continuing the lawsuit, an academic exercise because the substantive lawsuit was before another judge.
“So, this lawsuit stands out here,” he said.
