Court remands 65-year-old man allegedly in Anambra

Children from Anambra State Awka’s S3xual and gender-based violent crime court remanded a 65-year-old man, Joseph Nwankwo, who is allegedly an eight-year-old girl in R3.

The defendant faces a single charge.

According to police prosecutors. The defendant Chinyere Okechukwu committed the crime on December 28, 2024 in Ekwulobia in the Aguata Local Government Area in Anambra.

The complainant, the mother of an eight-year-old girl, said her daughter complained of back pain.

She checked and found her daughter’s vagina swelling.

“After a physical examination and investigation at Ekurbia General Hospital, a doctor confirmed that the girl had been defiled.

“However, the eight-year-old is open and said the defendant has always owned the S3X with her,” she said.

Okechukwu said the crime violates Section 130(2)(a)(b) of the Government Criminal Code 2022. She prayed that the court would send the suspect back to the correctional facility.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Chief Magistrate Mrs. Ue Onochie ordered the defendant to be filed by the Prosecutors Bureau (DPP) in the lawsuit in the AWKA Correctional Institution.

Onochie postponed the case until March. 12, used for compliance reporting.
