
A 56-year-old Ondo farmer, Oyinlola Jacob, has been remanded in custody at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, allegedly catching fire on his brother’s farm, worth 20 million nnn two million.
Jacob did not disclose his residence address and he was charged in the court that was dismissed by Aker District Court.
Police prosecutor Taiwan Oniyere told the court that the defendant committed the crime on January 29, 2025 at Odebei Farm in Ipogun, Ondo State.
Oniyere claims that the defendant illegally entered farmland belonging to his brother Ilemobayo Jacob, which included cocoa, palm trees, plantains and Koranat plantations and deliberately made it burn.
The prosecutor pointed out that the crime violates sections 516 and 443 of page 37 of the Criminal Code. 1. “Ondo State Law”, 2006.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
The prosecutor further told the court that there were already two witnesses and that the prosecutor aimed to convene a witness, seeking time to review the case files and prepare for trial.
Defense attorney OA Adanlawo did not object to the prosecution request, but begged the court to approve the defendants bail with leniency.
He assured the court that his client would not jump out of bail and provided a reliable guarantor.
In the ruling, Magistrate Judge Olusola Olujobi released the defendants bail with a total of 10 million guilds and the two margins were summed.
The court directed the guarantor to reside within its jurisdiction, provide an affidavit of means and submit two passport-sized photos.
However, Jacob was unable to meet the bail conditions and was later remanded in the Olokuta Correctional Center.
The case was adjourned until July 29, 2025 for further hearings.
