The High Court of Lagos State in Ikeja is scheduled to file a verdict on July 2, 2025, in the case filed by Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, commonly known as Mohbad.
The lawsuit challenges legal advice to clear music stars Naira Marley and Sam Larry Any participation suspected of participating in the death of the singer.
Justice Taiwo Olatokun repaired the date after hearing a debate between the legal representatives of both sides. Mr. Aloba, represented by senior advocates of Nigeria Wahab Shittu, Nigeria, filed a lawsuit against the Attorney General and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on behalf of the Aloba family.
Shittu argued that the legal consultation proposed by the DPP had prematurely affected the ongoing coroner investigation into Mohbad’s death and denied the family’s fair hearing. His concerns about the suspects mentioned during the investigation were issued on this recommendation, even if the investigation has not yet reached a conclusion.
Ayinde Ibrahim, a legal official at the DPP office, responded through an anti-judicial service, clarifying that the person released had been released and had not been acquitted. The DPP insisted on acting within its legal authority after reviewing the police investigation files and insisted that neither the applicant nor the coroner had access to the complete case files at that time.
The DPP further notes that there is no reliable evidence to link Naira Marley, Sam Larry or other named individuals to the death of Mohbad. “A thorough legal review reveals the facts that are directly or indirectly linked to death,” The affidavit states.
Furthermore, respondents argued that Mr Aloba’s failure to present new evidence or independent investigation findings could justify the decision to overturn the DPP. The court is expected to rule whether to maintain or put aside legal advice and determine its impact on the broader legal action on the death of Mohabad on July 2.
