    • The federal high court in Abuja filed lawsuits against former President Muhammadu Buhari and former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.

    • The lawsuit was dismissed due to a lack of diligence in prosecution, with no explanation from the plaintiff and his attorneys, and no court proceedings.

A federal high court in Abuja has filed lawsuits against former President Muhammadu Buhari and former Nigeria Central Bank (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele.

The lawsuit was filed by Uthman Isa Tochukwu, a legal practitioner in Abuja, who claimed that the 2023 Naira’s redesign policy made him difficult and violated his fundamental rights.

Judge Inyang Ekwo dismissed the lawsuit due to lack of diligence in prosecution, noting that the plaintiff and his attorneys had no explanation in the court proceedings. Judge Ekwo said: “I firmly believe that the plaintiff intentionally gave up his case.”

The plaintiff demanded compensation of N100 million, a permanent ban on the detention of the old N200, N500 and N1000 factions, and a public apology from two major newspapers.

However, the court agreed to the defendant’s attorney that the plaintiff showed no serious or commitment to prosecution of the case.
