Nigerian popular media figure Ifdayo Olarinde (known as Daddy Freeze) has sparked widespread reaction after questioning the integrity of Labour’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi.
In his recent appearance on the honest podcast, Daddy Freeze has raised concerns about Obi’s political history, especially his alleged involvement in the late military dictator General Sani Abacha.
Despite his acknowledgement of Obi’s wisdom and appeal, the freezing challenged his general perception as a clean, honest leader. He noted in particular that Obi served as managing director of key positions in the Nigerian port authorities – in the Abacha era.
“I admire Peter Obi. He is smart and clear, but I struggle with the fact that he served under the Abacha government. It’s hard to reconcile his Christmas image with many today.” Freeze said.
Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State University, received a lot of grassroots support during the 2023 presidential election, second only to APC’s Bola Tinubu and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar. Despite not taking on the presidency, his popularity continues to rise, with many followers optimistic about a comeback in 2027.
Since then, Daddy Freeze’s speech has sparked debate on social media platforms, some defending Obi’s record, while others echo Freeze’s focus on transparency and political consistency.
