
A tragic accident claimed that the life of the deaf people was claimed along a designated bus stop in Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in Ikeja, Lagos. The unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday, March 30, 2025, when the victim was waiting for a commercial bus at the bus stop.
The director of the Adebayo Taofiq Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, who confirmed the incident, attributed the accident to a reckless driving of a Suzuki mini commercial bus (Korope), which crashed into a fixed small community.
According to him
“Preliminary inquiry showed that one of the vehicles was out of control due to reckless excessive speed and violently hit a fixed minibus, then ruthlessly cut off the unsuspecting pedestrian.”
He added that in a rapid crisis intervention consistent with the UN response time, Lastma quickly arrived at the site and blocked the affected areas.
Taofiq revealed that Lastma convened law enforcement officers from the District F Police Department, who assumed the custody of the two vehicles for a thorough investigation.
Similarly, the National Environmental Health Monitoring Department (SEHMU) responded to the emergency call from Lastma officials, evacuating the body of the deceased to Ikeja with a dignified evacuation.
In the tragic event, the Governor’s special adviser spoke on this tragic event. Sola Giwa expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased, and also issued a stern warning to commercial transport operators, with the content complying with statutory traffic regulations.
He therefore emphasized the necessity of meticulous vehicle maintenance, with particular emphasis on the integrity of the braking mechanism to prevent preventable disasters.
Also, Hon. Giwa reiterated that the speed limiting sites of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) are located in Alapere, Ogudu Road & Nitel and Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Way, to monitor the speed of violations and improve speed violations, highlighting its critical role in reducing the reduction of overacceleration in private and commercial vehicles.
“Ensure road safety is a collective responsibility. Indiscriminate speeding and blatant disregard for traffic laws pose an existential threat to public safety. I urge all motorists to operate strictly in legal parameters to avoid unnecessary loss of human life.”
