The highly anticipated 17th Chief Awards ceremony finally kicked off Sunday night, although not without attendees.

Events, which were scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., began at 8 p.m. (WAT) despite earlier announcements by organizers. Guests, including fans and celebrities, are still waiting to enter the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, where the award and other celebrations will be held.

The report shows that the red carpet incident originally planned at 7 p.m. did not start as planned.

Social media users on X (@unlimitedeniola) entered the platform to express their frustration, highlighting the delay. “Everyone outside hasn’t started the event as of 7:30. The event is scheduled for 6.pm and then announced as the start of 7.pm, but at the time of reporting it hasn’t started, the red carpet hasn’t started yet, and the celebrities are still to be seen. #Headies#Back2Base,” the user wrote.

Despite the delay, the awards ceremony usually lasts about three hours and is expected to end at around 11 p.m. in previous years.

In past versions, Heads were held in Atlanta, Georgia and broadcast live on HIPTV, a channel owned by Headies’ founder and lead organizer, who is also the original concept of the Hip Hop World Awards.

As the red carpet finally unfolds, newlyweds Priscilla Ojo and Tanzanian singer Juma Jux enter their grand entrance. Priscilla, the daughter of popular Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, whose husband has set social media earlier this week with a fairy tale wedding, was the topic of the night on the red carpet.

Although postponed, the event interviewed several prominent figures, including TV hosts Frank Edoho and Ik Osakioduwa and veteran musician Zaki Adzee. The newlyweds Priscilla and Juma Jux were dazzled in their clothes and were interviewed by the host, adding to the glitz and charm of the night.

Juma Jux was nominated for “Best East Africa Artist of the Year” at the 17th Headies Awards, and he was one of the main nominees in the show, known as “Back to Base” by the organizers.

At the ceremony, the mind was also Collins Enebeli Ajereh, the father of famous music tycoon and Marvin Records boss Don Jazzy. Ajereh’s appearance, wearing a sharp blue tuxedo, added a little elegance to the event and attracted admiration from the crowd and fans.

Headies Awards, known for honoring the excellence of Nigerian music, returned to Nigeria with the star-studded crowds attending after two years of vacation.

This year’s ceremony has 31 categories, including coveted awards such as Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and the highly anticipated next rating award.
