The publication announced on Monday, March 10 that Grammy Award-winning rapper Doechii was named Billboard’s 2025 Women of the Year and will receive honors at an event held later this month.

Doechii is a newcomer to the rap type, which peaked in the 21st place in the Hot 100 with her viral rate “free scrub” and “denied being a river”.

In January, she won the first Grammy Award on the 2024 album “Alligator Bites Never Heal” in the Best Rap Album category, becoming the third woman to win honors in the history of the awards show. (She was also nominated for Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance.)

Doechii made his debut on the Grammy stage that night, with the vibrant “Denied is a River” and “cat fish”.

The Tampa artist has five song rankings on the Billboard Hot 100, including “Balloon” and “Extral”, working with creators Tyler The Creator and Jennie, respectively.

Doechii was previously recognized by Billboard in 2023 when she was named the publication’s Music Rising Star Award. She is just the third woman to continue to win the Women of the Year honors, following Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.

In a statement, Billboard’s editor-in-chief Hannah Karp praised Doechii’s “super companion lyrics and completely unique voice, style and spirit.”

Past recipients of Billboard’s Women of the Year honors include SZA, Billie Eilish, Madonna and Taylor Swift among others.

Doechii will receive honors and other awards will be awarded at Billboard’s 2025 Music Event.

Jennie will be awarded Songwriter of the Year honors, Erykah Badu will receive a breakthrough award, and pop singer Meghan Trainor will receive this year’s Hitmaker Award. Ángela Aguilar, Aespa, Glorilla, Gracie Abrams, Megan Moroney, Muni Long and Tyla will all perform.
