DSS arrests five highly-announced kidnapping suspects in Enugu

Enugu Governor Peter Mbah praised the successful operation of the State Department of Services (DSS), leading to the arrest of five prominent kidnappers hiding in the forests throughout the state.

After reliable intelligence, DSS agents tracked the suspect to two separate hiding places in Enugu State, the arrest was conducted on Wednesday, March 12. The arrested person is considered a member of a notorious kidnapping gang responsible for intimidating UDI local government areas and other parts of the state.

The suspect reportedly admitted to extorting huge ransoms from the victim’s family. During the operation, security forces also seized large amounts of money from the kidnappers’ hiding places, suspected of being the benefits of ransom and deadly weapons and other dangerous items.

In a statement, Mbah expressed satisfaction with the DSS’s efforts and cooperation among various security agencies, including the military, police and the Enugu State Forest Guard. He assured the public that the operation would continue to track its remaining gang members and remove its actions in the forest.

Additionally, on Friday, March 14, three other major members of another separate kidnapping group were arrested in Enugu, further strengthening the state’s fight against criminal activities.
