Edo Broadcasting Service has called on government appointees to avoid media participation.

Nigeria News Nalin The report said the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) has raised concerns about the reluctance of certain government appointees to interact with journalists, especially journalists from state-owned media.

Management of the station said this hindered its ability to fully cover the governor of Okpebholo on Monday.

In a strongly worded statement issued on March 6, EBS highlighted the key role of the media in promoting transparency and accountability. Management stressed that the public has the right to listen directly to government officials about policies and plans that affect their lives.

“As a government-owned TV and radio station, EBS operates the same standards as private broadcasters,” the statement said. “We will not hide the truth or cover of any officials, especially when their institutions are under public scrutiny.”

EBS also announced that it will begin recording all attempts to attract government officials to interview. The report will specify the number of outreach efforts done and clearly indicate the situation where the officer refuses to respond.

The station further praised Governor Okpebholo’s hands-on leadership and pointed out his regular inspection of national projects and commitment to public services. However, EBS expressed disappointment that some of his appointees did not show the same level of transparency and engagement.

EBS calls for a renewed commitment to dialogue between government officials and the media, urging appointees to support the government’s mission to serve the public good.

“We believe this situation can be improved and we look forward to a more collaborative relationship with all government officials,” the statement concluded.
