The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) arrested 19 people on Saturday in Benin, Edo, for alleged involvement in Internet fraud.
The arrest was performed by the EFCC’s Benin Zonal Bureau, after credible intelligence identified the suspects involved in fraudulent online activities, according to a statement shared on the agency’s X account on Monday.
This intelligence reportedly links the team to various programs aimed at misleading victims through illegal Internet practices.

During the operation, authorities seized several important items from the suspect, including five luxury cars and numerous smartphones.
Statement reading, “On Saturday, April 12, 2025, agents from the Benin Regional Bureau of the EFCC Economic and Financial Crime Commission arrested 19 suspected Internet fraudsters at various locations in Benin City, Edo Prefecture.
“The suspects are linked to fraudulent Internet activity based on reliable intelligence.
“The items recycled from them include five exotic and smartphones.”
The EFCC also assured the public that once the investigation is completed, the suspect will face immediate legal consequences.
“Once the investigation comes to a conclusion, they will be prosecuted immediately.EFCC guarantees.
The latest crackdown is a series of similar operations carried out by the EFCC in Edo State and beyond, reflecting the agency’s focus on addressing Internet fraud, commonly known as Nigeria’s “Yahoo-Yahoo”.
